My 7 month old boxer Crankshaft is going to have to be neutered.I took him to the vet and they told me he has to be so i am going to get him neutered my question is does it hurt i figured they would probley put him a sleep i hope when they do it but when ever its over well it hurt him and if so how long does it usally take for it to heel i have never had to neuter any of my dogs so i do not know what to expect the other question is will they keep him over night or will they send him home the same night?
Faeden was just neutered last week. There is some pain involved, but he was back to his old self within a day or so. Looking at him today, you would not even know that a week ago he underwent the procedure. They do put them to sleep for the procedure, and I believe how long they stay varies with veterinarians. I dropped Faeden off in the morning, and picked him up at 5 o'clock. When we had KC spayed, she was kept overnight. Give your vet a call, I'm sure they will be more then willing to answer any and all questions you might have.
Every dog handles it differently, some are in a lot of pain for a long time, with our dog, you wouldn't even know he was ever neutered. They day he was neutered he wasn't even out of it or slow, just hyper and the way he's always been.
For the first day or so males are aware that something was done "down there" and that there is some irratation. The first thing they want to do is lick at the area. Try hard to keep him from doing that. It's quite amazing how quickly the incision heals.
Thanks for all the answers to my question i dont have any kids him and his brother are my babies when we had to take him to the vet for it coming out and swelling they made him bark and he looked like he was in alot of pain and i cryed i had to go outside till it was over now they say if i dont get him neutered that it will happen again and i dont want it to happen again so i am just trying to get to know alittle about the operation....Thanks again
My 6 month old puppy was neutered today. He is fine. A little tired but I think that is because the vet said he didn't sleep at all - too busy checking out everything happening at the surgery! The hardest problem I am having is keeping him quiet. He wants to play! I am not sure he even knows he had surgery today :) My vet was awesome answering all my questions beforehand and even more today when I picked him up.
Bentley was fine and his old self pretty quick, I think i was the worry wart making more of the situation then he did. LOL He even had some baby teeth pulled the same time and i was a mess worring he was in pain. He came home and ate right away and didnt seem to be bothered that much. Hes a small 7 pound toy poodle and bichon mix My vet told me the smaller dogs seem to need a extra day some times just to recoop. My vet seems to say alot of things about little dogs..lol When they get their shots he says little dogs are the yelpers and whiners. why is that?? why does it hurt a smaller dog then a bigger dog? or just smaller dogs are more dainty and whiney? Guess i never thought about it.. They didnt keep Bentley over night i droped him off at 9 am on my way to work and the vet called me to let me know he was out of surgery which made my day go by so much better i was constantly worring, But i picked him up after work that day about 4 and they gave him NO pain meds they say they give them a dose before going home and thats all they need. I really thought they would of sent pain meds home but they didnt. So i guess each dog and vet is differnt.
