My boxer pups are a little over 2 months old now and they had their first bath (with me bathing) a week ago and they didnt' like it!! (go figure!) They whined and wiggled the whole time!! I want them to not have a fear of water and actually enjoy bath time and swimming!! We go to the lake so much and we want to take them and have them swim but we can't b/c they don't like the water.(yet) Granted this was their first encounter (with me) in the water. Will it "grow" on them to like the water? Is their any special method to helping them get used to water and see that it's not going to hurt them and their not going to drown? Maybe it's a trust thing?? Anyone have any suggestions on how to help the pups overcome it?? And one more question kind of off my previous topic but...is it too early to start obediance training? They aren't quite 3 months yet but they are getting close. Is it too early or am i starting at a good time?
Puppy usually respond well to obedience training anywhere from 9-12 weeks, depending on the breed. Have you enrolled in any puppy kindergarten classes yet? They are a great way to get the puppies socialized. As for water, I used to let my pups splash and play ball in very shallow wading pools, like 2 inches of water, they loved it, especially when it was hot outside. It was great for me too, because then they would come inside and sleep for hours.
