Does anybody feed vegetables to their dogs. My little girl blew up during her last heat cycle and can't seem to take it off.
She is a 3 year old doberman who put on 4-1/2lbs during her last heat cycle. I have her down to 1 cup of Timberwolf twice a day and she is not satisfied. She is starting to steal the cat food, eat grass, chew the woodwork etc.
I was always told if you diet have a piece of fruit before your meal or double up on the green vegies and that will fill you so you eat less. I am hoping the same will work for a dog.
Anybody ever try it, mixing vegies with their dogs food?
With the raw diet I occasionally blend up fresh carrots, celery, apples, alfalfa, and parsley.. they will only eat it if I mix it with their beef tripe though lol. I'm not sure how those veggies/fruits are for losing weight, but they seem to like them. I make them into a puree.
Hi Ren, I was running into the same problem, Rocky was too chubby and the vet said cut him back. He is 26 pds. and gets 1/2 cup food 2 x day.
Irish, who posts on here quite often suggested the green beans, Said they will help fill him up, very low in calories. So we tried it,I get the kind with no added salt. Rocky smells them and goes crazy running in circles while I mix it with his food. He loves them, and I must say he seems to be a lot better.
Also have given him cooked squash the night we had squash, and like some of the others mentioned. He LOVES raw carrots.
I use fresh, or if nothing is available I will use frozen. One time when work was short handed I was helping to bag groceries... a lady bought two big bags of dog food and like a million bags of frozen carrots and green beans (among other groceries). Asked her if she had overweight dogs she was trying to slim down. She was like OMG how did you know!! LOL. It was funny.
