So for a long time now my male shiba "Kaiser" has been a little over-aggressive towards other dogs, especially in the neighborhood. We thought if we got him neutered it would calm him down, but several days afterward he's now showing WAY more aggression than ever before, randomly attacking both of our other dogs and guarding the food bowl 24/7. What's going on?
It can take months before all the hormones are gone from their systems. Shibas can be a very aggressive breed neutered or not, in fact the older my male gets the worse he gets, although he isnt that bad, it is mostly when on leash and he has never attacked a dog, just grumbling.
It's been my experience that neutering does'nt do Jack Squat with a dog showing aggression towards other dogs. The food aggression is easier to deal with, the aggression towards other dogs, not so easy.I have a stud, with 2 neutered sons who want to kill each other. I have been working with them, but it's a constant uphill battle. It will take the same amount of work with your dog. Have you taken your dog to obedience, yet?
No, it belongs to my dad and he doesnt believe in paying someone else to do something you can do yourself, he has hundreds of auto repair manuals for that reason, lol. Either way it's out of my control. The aggression isn't what surprises me, its the fact that he is ten times MORE aggressive minus his manhood. He used to just play with the new puppy, but since he came back from being neutered he seems to want to KILL the new puppy, and he NEVER used to guard the food bowl.
