My Zoey was spayed 3wks and 5 days ago. Everything was going good they removed her outside stitches 2 weeks later. Then this knot showed up on her lower stitches area. Monday it was the size of a golf ball and this red-purplish line appeared on the stitches line. Tuesday the golf ball knot turned deep purplish red and the small line turned bigger and the whole area around it turned that deep purplish red. This morning when we got up the whole area was open. Its about 2in big and I can see the inside string they used laying there. Its about a 1/4 inch deep. Should I be very worried or is this normal.. I did take her into the Vet on Monday he said that this might form a puss pocket and puss might come out, he also said that it might open the size of the tip of your finger. This is the size of 3 or 4 fingers long. PLease help me!!!!
I took her in she has an infection. They are gonna clean her out and restitch her up. What should I ask for when I pick her up so this doesnt happen again?? Thank You For your help!!!

good news and so glad you got her to the vet. Thanks for listening to advice. So many come here and ask for advice and continue to do whatever paying no attention to information they receive. Of course they wonder when things are so horrible, tragedy strikes.
One more suggestion, make sure you keep your vet up dated on what you see on your dog. IF you continue to see puss let the vet know and speak directly to the vet!!!
The oozing is part of the infection coming out too and yes this is fairly normal however you need to keep an eye on it and not let it get out of hand. Right now it "sounds" all correct.
NO, licking is a major no no. You should have been given an E collar to prevent this. Please call them and go pick one up. I am so sorry for not mentioning this to you, I figured your vet would just take care of it. UGG... assuming LOL
Listen to your gut either way with respect to your vet. Our guts are usually correct. In the mean time, Get the E collar. She will not like it and it's a pain in the behind but very important to stop her from licking and cleaning this. That only leads to more problems.
When I picked her up yesterday I asked for a e collar they said no she didnt need one. I said can I have one anyways they said no she doesnt need it....(I put a tee shirt on her so she cant lick it anymore.) I also asked for pain meds and they also said no she doesnt need them. That she is fine..

I would find a differnt vet. My puppy goes in next wedsday, I sure hope it goes well. I have pain pills from a puppy in the past and this wet said to bring them, I can use them. I wouldnt go with out pain meds, whats with that vet?
This is Miya our 4 lb pomapoo and Tyson our 95 lb boxer playing together
NO on the bayer's children chewable, definitely another no-no
What is the purpose of giving her this? for pain? If she's uncomfortable or in pain, call your vet again. :-(e
Time for a new vet. Also, YOU ARE THE CLIENT... call them up and DEMAND what you want. There is no excuse for some of this and get the darn vet on the phone, not a tech or receptionist and I love techs, You just need your vet and stay on the phone waiting or keep calling and tell them you are not going to stop calling until you speak to the vet. When vet gets on the phone you can say "I'm not trying to be rude to you but I need an E collar and my dog is very uncomfortable and I am asking you for both collar and a medication".... Get tough with he/she.
Hate when I hear this crap, so sorry you're having these problems.
I have spoken to the vet and he says she needs neither.. I have asked twice.. Once face to face (yesterday when I picked her up) and today on the phone.. She just looks like she is in pain when you look into her eyes.. Her belly is so tender today when I went to put the neosporin on it she just flinched and tried to kick me everytime I touched it.. Like trying to push me away..
That is weird about the pain meds. My vet gives an injectable rimadyl at the time of the surgery for pain management and sends home chewable tabs for later if needed. I don't usually use an e collar, but the pain meds are required. Wonder if the vet would like to have his abdomen cut open and parts removed and not get pain meds. Time for a new vet ASAP.

Well my neighbor had a ecollar cause her dog just got over a broken leg so she let me borrow it.. Shes not really crying or anything so they say that means shes not in pain.. I just called a different vet and they said that the way she is moving around and not crying then she doesnt need pain meds..
