I love animals and have several cats. All were strays or shelter animals. I recently posted an ad for a free kitten (and offered to pay for the neutering as incentive) that my nephew found at his school on craig's list and was very excited when 9 people called the first morning it was posted. I called 3 people back before I found one that seemed like a good candidate. She came and saw him and spent a couple of hours playing with him and seemed to fall in love and took him home. I am now really upset. I was told tonight that there's a problem with people posting free animals on Craig's list because the people that call about the animals are taking them to labs that pay by the pound for the animals. (As a source of income.) I was also told that PETA is petitioning Craig's list to stop allowing free animals to weed these people out. There were at least 2 people that called me that didn't seem to love animals and were overly eager to take the kitten right then... I'm hoping and praying that the girl that took him will truly give him a good home. I'm going to call her tomorrow (too late tonight) and insist on visiting the kitten. Has anyone heard of this??? I feel sick to my stomach just thinking about it.
Yes, I have heard of it. But I doubt someone would spent 2 hours with the kitten that was not serious about giving it a good home. Just call her and ask her that if the kitten does not work out that she will promise to return it to you. I placed a dog with a family(not from Craigslist) but I later found this dog listed on Craigslist. I was able to buy my own dog back. I would forget Craigslist and put up a flyer at the local vets office. And try to get references about the people from the vet.
