I just saw an add on our local classifieds list for a male boxer, 2 yrs old. For sale "for $150 so I can buy my children christmas presents"
I was blown away!!!!! I sent the following email to this person. I just had to say something.
"That is probably the most disgusting thing I have heard come out of someone's mouth. Take your children's friend away from them before Christmas and explain to them that it is in order to buy them a couple temporary material gifts? Why not explain to your children that there are things more important in this world, like loyalty, and friendship, and treating a friend like they deserve to be treated, no matter how tough things get. Teach them that families stick together and don't sell off family members when times get tough. Teach them that Christmas is not about material things, but being together, and holding on to those you love. This could be the best lesson your children ever learned. AND they could keep their best friend. Please reconsider."
"Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else."
However.....if this person is that flat broke, perhaps this dog will be better off in the long run with someone who can afford to feed it and get proper vet care. They clearly don't love the animal so maybe the poor thing will find a home with somebody who does care and will love it for life and not just when it's convenient. Personally I would rather sell my kidney or other organs than one of my pets but these guys ARE my kids. I get just as angry as you when I see people who give up a pet just because they are moving. I moved heaven and earth to find an apartment that would allow my large dog when I got divorced. There is no excuse for these people!!!! I hope your email at least made this person feel guilty about what they were doing.
However, that is selfish. It's like selling your human child to buy your husband a car. It's quite sick actually. But I bet a lot of those newspaper ads are all about raking in money to buy their kids presents, wouldn't be surprised if some "breeders" do it for that reason alone.
Some people. I hope she reconsiders but I doubt it.
Ask a question and you're a fool for three minutes; do not ask a question and you're a fool for the rest of your life.
