Could anyone offer me some advice on how to deal with my 6-month old Pappillion? We love her to death but she is getting out of control, peeing where she wants/when she gets excited/when we try and reprimand her, chewing on the walls, licking incessantly at times, barking at everything she hears, not listening to any verbal commands, etc. We are not first time dog-havers, but are first time dog owners. I'm beginning to get worried cause we are at wits end. She also tries and nips when we go to grab her to move her away from the door, or couch, etc.... Would love to hear some moral support or even advice cause we love her so much but dont know what to do.
As a Dog Trainer and a Papillon owner, the best advice is to find a good trainer in your area. Talk to them and start obedience classes. Paps are hard to house train due to there size, but they are very intellegent so they can learn if you are consistant. The problems with the lack of response to verbal commands is 100% an obedience problem so training is going to help you. Same goes for the seperation issues. My Pap likes to bark and whine when we leave, so he is learning that we will not give him any attention or let him come out with us until he is quiet, and he is picking this up. Good Luck:)
We should strive to be the kind of people our dogs think we are.
