I am having a problem with my 2 year old Dachshund. One day last week I noticed that her right eyelid was quite swollen. I checked it out and figured that she must have been bitten by an insect. The next day little bumps appeared on her still very swollen eyelid and the bumps were beginning to ooze. Her left eyelid also was beginning to swell. My vet put her on pred. and clavamox. She also took a sample of fluid from the eyelid which only showed increased white blood cells. My vet is at this time labeling it as some type of allergic reaction. I'm not so sure though. Today the bumps have ulcerated and she also has the bumps developing on her muzzle now, with one already ulcerating. Lucy (my doxie) does not seem bothered by any of this at all, no itching, seems painless. But it sure looks horrible. The ulcers look painful to me! I am wondering about reactive histiocytic disease or some type of auto-immune problem. This dog has not been exposed to anything new lately, nor been around anything unsafe, though I do know that allergies can just start one day out of the clear blue sky. Has anyone her ever experienced something like this? My vet feels this just may take some time to clear but I'm just worried that it may be something more. ANYBODY??

Ok, well I guess nobody has had this experience. Anyhow, I took Lucy off the clavamox that she was prescribed and put her on cephalexin. That was my own personal decision because cephalexin is the better antibiotic for skin infections in my opinion. The ulcers are finally drying up. I just hope that this is the end of it and I never see it again!
