my husband..daughter and i went to south of the boarder for the weekend..come to realize that it was only 72 miles from myrtle beach....so along the way we decided to go to ripley's to see the fish...we have our two minature dachshunds with us...we tryed to find a pet friendly hotel..the only one we found was a holiday inn that accepted pets..it was 167 a night with the pet fee...we could not find one so we went on to see the fish at the aqu....the temp outside was 67 degrees..nice day people were walking around in pants it was in the middle of october...we the decided that we would just leave the dogs in the car..we came back out to let them out thrre times durning our 2 hour stay..i gave them water three times and fed them once..the windows were down 2 inches just enough room where someone could not stick there hand in there and steal my dogs....the last time we came back out we were leaving..there was two myrtle beach police men standing at my car...they told us that someone had reported the dogs being in the car 4 hours straight..which was not true..they had gotton the dogs out of my car and put them in the police car..told me were were being charged with animal cru...ok imagine a 6 year old child runnung around the police car screaming...the police told us that we had not been out to car and let the dogs out not one time....so they took our dogs..told us we had to come back and go to court...not sure if we would get the dogs back or not....a week later was our court date..we live in northcarolina near the beach....which is 4 hours away from myrtle beach....we gather a bunch of the papers proving what time we went in and out..got our hand stamped...we had all of our friends to write letters to the judge saying that we are good people..the judge said that there was no evidence to prove that we had done our dogs wrong..our dogs were kept in the humane society in myrtle beach for a week..both of my dogs had kennel cough when they came..i never got the boarding shot because i never thought my dogs were gonna be boarded...we treat our dogs very well....
So sorry you learned your lesson the hard way, but am glad that you got the pups back. I can't imagine how horrific that had to have been for your 6 year old.
I would say that whoever reported you to law enforcement felt they were looking out for the dogs. I would probably have done the same myself, sorry, but true. Hope all goes well with them getting over the KC.
Best suggestion would be to check ahead next time. It is possible that the aquarium has accommodations for travelers' pets. I know that Sea World in Orlando does as does Disney. There are also sites that list pet friendly hotels, motels & inns across the country showing restrictions and fees.
Hopefully your experience will help others avoid the same situation in the future. Thanks for sharing and providing the warning to others.
