why arent there more or any breeders offering these wonderful dogs below the 49th parrell or why are they so hard to find if there are? own one now and wouldn't trade him for the world , he's my baby and if Ceasar Milan saw he runs me he'd threaten to punish me severly. Would just like to see this breed reconized more and for the beauty and brains. Comments please?
I think probably b/c it is not a recognized breed yet by the AKC or U(nited)KC. Generally an Alaskan Husky is a Siberian Husky crossed with a hound or the like. For now, they are only a mixed breed hybrid bred specifically for dog sled racing. The problem with becoming a more recognized 'breed' is there has to be some sort of standard put into place.
Right now, Alaskan Huskies are only bred for their speed and endurance, not for any outward physical qualities or asthetic(sp?) ones for that matter. It would be very difficult to pick out similar qualities from dog to dog. Therefore, you don't have any breed type to aspire to. It makes it difficult to establish a group of dogs as a 'breed' when you don't know what you're gonna get from litter to litter. Am I making any sense? If you do some poking around about a breed's history, and how they were developed, you'll get what I'm saying. Hope this helped.
For the record, mixed bred or not, Alaskan Huskies are amazing athletes.
