If he does it when your not around he may be bored, scared, or distressful. Some traing is in need sounds like. I would also have plenty of chew toys for the dog, rope, hard rubber, squeaky etc... also try some bitter apple training spray and spray on your furniture and if you see him chewing
I would definitely start him on some regular exercise. You'd be amazed at how much regular exercise helps. Say, 1-2 30min. walks a day.
Keep him busy. It's like having another kid at times! Both Labs and Shepherds are working dogs, he is dying for a job to do! Channel that God-given energy into something constructive. Do you have room where you can take him retrieving in a field or park? You can buy duck dummies pretty cheap. It's a lot of fun for both you and your dog, and it will get him good and tuckered out!
Dogs are like anything else in life. You get out of them what you put into them. If you put the time and effort into your boy, he'll blossom!
i have a plastic fly swatter and when zoey sees me go get it she knows shes doing something wrong and she stops . someone else told me a spray bottle with water in it . it surprises them and they will stop doing whatever is bad,
One of the best ways to get your dog to stop chewing is to occupy their time and allow them to chew, but only certian things. One thing they crave is a bully stick. It is much safer than rawhide and it takes them a long time to chew one up. Praising him for chewing the bully stick and correcting for anything else, will bring the dog to an understanding of what is acceptable and what is not. A great site for odor free sticks is bullystickdirect.com
