I have an almost 2 year old Bluetick Coonhound. We wrestle around a lot, and I noticed lastnite, when I pull up on the loose skin on the back of her neck, and let go, it stays in place. Rather than going back to where it should be. She drinks plenty of water all throughout the day, and eats plenty of food. Is this okay, or is it a sign of dehydration?
Do you mean it remains in a raised position or that it remains in a loose, pulled-out-of-place position like a tossed blanket? Some of them have REALLY loose skin. If it sort of flops and folds it is ok but if it seems to stay raised you should have a vet check it out. One of ours develops a hood everytime she sniffs the ground or eats and it doesn't go back down until she starts looking around or lifts her head very high or sits.
Ahh.. Sigh of relief! I took Bailey to the vet, and, low and behold, was told not to worry that her skin kind of just flopped over. I thought I knew all there was to know about hounds, but, apparently I'm not expert! Thanks for the replies!
