We have had our American Eskimo for about two years now. He was at first a very timid puppy, but within the last year he has become very aggressive. At first it was just with some possesion that he had found and when we would try to take it away he would bite( drawing blood). Now it seems that he is like this with almost everything. How do I stop this behavior? I have reprimanded him, locked him in a room, and I just don't trust him. He has bitten my husband, both my grown daughters, one of which is his owner, my son, my dad and my brother. What can I do. I have really considered putting him down, but that would be heartbreaking. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
It sounds like he's maybe biting out of fear, being as he was so timid at first. What position is he in when he bites, or is it all random? I mean does he run at these people, or is he sitting and they approach him and he bites?
Both, he runs at the people who come in the door, and when he is sitting and someone tries to pet him, anyone from our family to outside people he growls and then tries to bite. He should be used to alot of people by now, he is two years old, why bite the people in the house, who feed him and take care of him? Especially my daughter who he belongs to? I am willing to try anything. I have had advice from people that tell me to take him down and make him be submissive. But that does not work. I wonder if having him fixed would help at all.
I would definitely get him neutered. Is he crate trained? It sounds like he is the boss in this household, and has'nt learned that his owner is the alpha. I also wonder if he's not fear-biting, at the same time. Have you tried completely ignoring him, after restraining him, when company comes? When he was growling and biting at the start, when a toy was taken away from him, would have been the place to start, but since that's not possible, I would recommend having him checked by the vet, thoroughly, when he gets neutered, and then take him to obedience classes. If that fails, I would see an animal behaviourist. Good luck with him.
