We have a six yr old female who is gated in the bathroom all day while we are at work. She has newspaper to pee in, but stopped about 2 yrs ago. We suspect she doesn't drink much during the day. In the evening, she drinks and eats to catch up and wants to go out every 1-2 hrs. It appears that when we are sleeping she regularly pees on our carpet in our bedroom and downstairs. We tried keeping her in our room but she was waking us for water and to go out every 1-2 hours. We put water in our room, now she doesn't even wake us, she just pees. What should we do????
I'm sorry I can't help you. I'm having trouble potty training my yorky too. She will go on the wee-wee pad but still poops in the the living room. We scold her and put her in the cage for about 2 minutes, but she still is not getting it. Any advice?
Potty training requires consistency. If your yorkie is not fuly potty train and refuse to work with you, keep him in his cage until he understands what he needs to do. I have a yorkie, I am still potty training him, and until he is fuly trained I will not allow him to run around all day in the house. When I take him outside to use the bathroom, once he does what he is supposed to do then I will let him play in the house for about two hours, then I put him back in the cage. While he is out I keep him close where I can see him at all time. He still pee in the house periodically, but he has not poop in the house for while. Good luck.
This is hardly a case of potty training, the dog is 6 years old. If this little dog were mine I would be taking her into the vet for a checkup, as to why the incontinence. She needs a full blood panel done, and urinalysis, as I'm sure your vet will do. If she's spayed, she could also have spay incontinence. I would take her to the vet ASAP, and good luck with her.
