I'm getting a new kitten soon and I was wondering... Does the CitiKitty product really work? (If you don't know what CitiKitty is, here's a link to how it works: http://www.citikitty.com/how-it-works.htm) Does it really help cats learn to use the toilet? If so, is it all right to start a kitten on it first thing, or should I let it get used to a litter box, and then progress to the toilet? And are there any CitiKitty users who are [un]happy with this product? Please share your thoughts/experiences. Thanks in advance!
I have toilet trained a cat before, but I did not use CitiKitty. I couldn't get the link to come up, so I am not sure what it is. I definately do not recommend trying to toilet train a kitten, their balance is not good enough. Wait until kitty is at least a year old, then progress to the toilet. I moved the litter box a little closer to the toilet each day until it was right next to it. Then I set it on top of the toilet seat for a while (a week or so, and that was a pain every time I had to use the toilet!) Then I bought this training ring that sits down in the toilet and holds litter (which was still a pain everytime I had to go!). after about two weeks of that I took the ring out, and presto! Kitty used the toilet. I could never get her to flush though. . .
But it is personal preference, for both you and kitty. Just remember, if you choose to toilet train your cat, that does not mean kitty will take to it! With the two kitties I have now, I think I am content to keep a litter box.
