i have a golden that im having tick problems with. i tried everything ive tried front line plus; k9 advantics; of course terminex, sprays and shampoos and now im using the preventive collar i got from the vet. she said it helped her with her dogs and every patient had good results.
Ticks are really bad here in N.C. I use frontline plus but it only lasts about 3 weeks so I started having my yard treated by terminex this year. Hope I have better luck with that. Also my dad has an outside dog and he does nothing but put vinegar in her water. The dog never has had a problem with ticks or fleas, so now I am going to try that. They don't want to drink it at first but when they get used to it they will. He is from the old school and doesn't really take her to the vet except for rabies vaccines. She was spayed when he got her. She has never been on heartworm meds either and is about 14 years old. Not that I agree with that but I would almost bet you that she doesn't have heartworms either. Seems very healthy and hair shines like you wouldn't believe. He swears by that vinegar and it seems to be working. He only puts about a teaspoon to a gallon of water. Its worth a try.
Wow! Where do you live? I live in tick-filled MN, and K9 Advantix takes care of ticks lickety-split. If your dog is picking up ticks in your yard mainly, you can check out natural diatomaceous earth (not the kind made for pool filters) to spread around your yard.
i live in florida. shaved my golden amd put the collar on so he good so far. he seems more comfortable and he does not go to the yard anymore. i now have him inside at all times and walk him. he actually seems happier and i dont have his hair all over the place. so far so good not one tick but i still search him everyday just in case
I think the best thing to do is to treat them early in the year before you have the problem. This seems to have on my dogs. Also have they had a lyme disease shot? You better have that done as lyme disease is very dangerous and is rampant in all states now regardless of what the Center for disease reports.
yes he is updated with his shots as well. he is actually doing so much better now that he is shaved. i havent seen one tick since i shaved him a couples of weeks ago. i have him on this preventive color that the vet actually uses on her dogs. the color works so well it worked beter than k9 advantix.
