I can't beleive the babies are already 4 weeks old. They turned 4 weeks Monday, June 30th (yesterday). And I need help weaning, I have read all the stuff online but still a little worried I will screw up. When should they start to be weaned, I read 4 weeks? And any info on weaning would be great, personal experiences too.
Usually the mother cat will give you the first indication that she's had enough, by jumping up, when the kittens try and nurse, or by letting them nurse for a little bit and then taking off. Feel for their teeth, and if they're definitely there and razor sharp, start with a sloppy mixture at first. You can start soaking dry cat food in formula for them, in small amounts, making sure to take each kitten and dab the goop on it's mouth first, then put his head down to the food. Let us know how they react to that.
If it was me doing this, I would say no. The reason being that as soon as you give a cat canned food, they much prefer it over dry, hence the addition of some formula. It really doesn't matter though, it's your personal preference. If you're going to be feeding them canned food mainly with dry food as a free feed, then by all means, use the canned. They won't need much persuasion to eat it, just make sure you get a good quality canned food. Good luck.
Okay, I tried giving them canned food all mushie and stuff. They basically looked at me and laughed. They want nothing to do with the food. And Mims (The Mommy) is still letting them nurse no problem. And they got tiny little teeths. And I could imagine that it kinda hurts but she still nurses. So maybe they ain't ready to be weaned yet. Thanks for all the help!

at 4 weeks they probably are not ready yet. Continue to offer dry food/formula mush or wet food (i would put a bit of formula in that too), they will take to it eventually. once they start to nibble at it, continue to feed it, mixing less and less formula as you go. Simultaneously, momma will start to let them nurse less and less. They probably aren't interested in the mush at all yet because they are still full from mom's milk. Once she starts cutting them off, they will go for the mush more. Good luck and keep us posted!
I like most cats better than I like most people. I'll try to be nicer if you try to be smarter.
