My parents female shih tzu has always humped arms whenever she can reach them. She does this mainly before her and my parents go to bed at night. One can tell her no, but my mom has awakened to her going at it with her arm. She is ten years old, is spayed and has done it since she was a puppy. Does anyone have any guesses why she does this behavior? It is something she does almost on a daily basis.

Please tell me you aren't breeding your dogs! Purpledog, it's probably a dominance issue and isn't sexual in any way. It sounds like she is doing this to the other females in "her" house. There are many things you/your parents can do to show their dominance. Not letting her sleep in the bed with them would be a good start. I know it's hard. I let my maltese sleep in the bed a few times a week and rest of the time he sleeps in his own little bed. It's helped his marking issue a lot, as well as his separation anxiety.
They bought her from a breeder when she was 8 weeks old. That was ten years ago though. I can't imagine anything would have happened to her when she was little because the breeder was super responsible. She still is a family friend even though she doesn't breed anymore. They have asked her her thoughts and she has no idea why Honey does this.
She is spay and has never been bred. All dogs that have been owned by my family have been spay or neutered. We have never ever considered breeding.
She does it to anyone in the house. My dad, brother, and any guests if opportunity presents itself. The behavior happens anytime of the day. I think she has easiest access when someone is in bed though.
