I have a 14 year old husky shepard mix who was diagnosed with pancreatitis 2 weeks ago. She has been on antibiotics since and will eat about 1-2 tablespoons of food from my hand a day. We have tried differnet foods like rice, pasta, etc since she is on a bland diet. The vet does not seem as concerned as I am. Any suggestions on how to get her to eat more? I was thinking of taking her to a holistic vet for a second opinion.
Just a thought, have you tried adding a supplement to replenish good bacteria in his gut? Being on anti-biotics can disrupt the balance in his stomach and intestines. Our doctors often prescribe something for that. Fortiflora, or Bene-bac gel are two that I can think of. You can ask your vet about them. Just adding bland yogurt to his diet might also help. Pancreatitis is hard to treat sometimes but can be very serious. If you're not happy with the vet's level of concern I would find someone else. Dogs with pancreatitis often relapse if they are not kept on a very strict diet that is low in fat so watch your fat content in the dog's food and our vets always say to limit treats which are high in fat. Hills makes some prescription treats that we usually tell people are okay to give their pancreatitis dogs. I hope he's doing better now! Good luck with him!
