I am going to get a rescue kitty, but have just been informed she has a prolapsed rectum. I was told the vet said it should resolve by itself. Should I be worried? Is this going to be a lifetime, recurring problem? What about parasites?
I've only had very limited experience with this one. I had one foster that had this problem and she grew out of it. It corrected itself about a week after I got her, and never recurred as far as I know. That was a long time ago, so I'm not sure how they're handling it nowadays. My vet did perscribe a special food designed to be easy on the digestive system and pass easier.
What did the vet say about it? Did he say it would be ongoing?
I think generally as the cat gets older and their pelvic muscles strengthen it should keep it from recurring.
I like most cats better than I like most people. I'll try to be nicer if you try to be smarter.
