Hi, havent been around in a while. Anyway I am going to be getting a fenced yard and doggie door for my Italian Greyhounds very soon and wondering if you think they will take to it pretty well. They have used wee wee pads up until now and I know they may still use them somewhat but wondering if anyone has experience with the same type of transition.
I plan on sort of keeping them confined to a smaller area but where they have access to the doggie door but not the rest of the house including their exclusive pee pad area. I am hoping that they will opt for the doggy door if they don't have access to their pee pad area. Especially if they have limited space. The doggy door is going to be going out a door that exits from my bedroom. The bedroom is their main den area. Thats where they sleep and do most of their playing right now.
because this is a sight hound make 100% certain there is no way they can escape from the fenced area and that all gates are securely padlocked[the locks that are set to a combination are nice}. My daughter recently had the bad experience of someone who was painting her house leave the gate unlatched and her Mastiff pups got loose, after 18 hours of hunting her rural neighborhood she found both dogs unharmed. This could have been avoided by having a dog door that could be locked from inside the house and a securely padlocked gate.
