Hi, I have a 13month old bull terrier who just recently became aggressive towards other dogs. I need some advice on how to handle this problem. We have two unaltered male dogs, one is a boston terrier(2yrs old) and our bull terrier. For the most part they do get along, though in the past they have fought. We now tend to play with them separate and watch them very carefully when together. As for training, our boston was much more easier to train then our bull terrier. I have tried to train him but he loses interest quickly and can't seem to learn commands. He does do good on the leash, he will come when called, and will most of the time stay by your side when you tell him to but thats about it. Our bull terrier at home is very lazy, calm, and tends to ignore the boston terier. He plays well with my mom's dogs which are all females: a chihuahua, german sheperd, and a mutt. But when we are at the dog park, he becomes very energetic and wild which gets him into trouble most of the time. I have noticed its only certain dogs that get him realy aggressive especially when they get on top of him. Also, when another dog grows at him he gets really exsited and starts whining, jumping, and tring to get the other dog to chase him. Well, that never ends well and the fight begins. I would like to know if there is something else I can try before I neuter him. Please, if anyone has any ideas let me know...!
1 - I live in a large city and do not recommend taking any unaltered dog to the dog park. My male bull terrier is great with other dogs, but other males at the park tend to try and pick fights. And...It is my experience that regardless of who starts the fight, it will always be the bully-breed's fault!! Don't risk the reputation of the breed, nor the health/well-being of your dog. I was at the dog park 7 days a week with my first two bullies, but that was almost 10 years ago. I'm afraid times have changed and common sense isn't so common any more! With breed specific legislation popping up all over the country, I just wouldn't take the chance. 2 - Altering your dog may or may not change the behavior, although I always encourage altering if you are not going to breed responsibly!! 3 - Some males don't get along with other males, regardless of breed. It is just that with a bully, they have the strength and tenacity that can be hard to harness. Check with your breeder on the temperament of their lines. 4 - Welcome to bull terriers. They are the comedic goofballs of the terriers. And stubborn? A bull terrier? HA! During training, most dogs will eagerly ask what they can do for you. A bull terrier wants to know what is in it for them!! They have the attention span of a kumquat. They can be highly intelligent, but get bored/distracted very easily.
I don't know the rules of the forum, but if you have any questions, you are welcome to PM me....Best of luck to you!

There are many other dog training ideas that can be used, depending on the personality of your own dog. One of the best things to do whenever you run into some kind of a problem training your dog is to be persistent. Eventually your dog will yield to your commands.I found this video on you tube and was just wondering if anyone here had any thoughts or additional suggestions? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COx9z8HERJA
