Hello, my female is probably a week from whelping her pups (25-29th) and i have read so much information. I know quite a bit from helping cats have kittens, but this is my first dog. We are planning to help get the pups out of the sac, get all the fluids out and tie and cut their cords. We have clean towels, heating pad ready, place for her to whelp thats quiet and private.. all the supplies. I know how to get the pups alert by rubbign them or shaking them properly... I read so many different things. 2 inches from the stomach is where i should cut the cord correct? I should tie it probalby what 1 inch from the stomach? After i do that and cleanse it,, do i need to do anything else with it? Do i cut it while the placenta is still inside the mom or do i wait? I know some books ive read said if we cut it too long the mom may still tug at it? Another thing once she is done having pups, people have said take her outside right away, that she may not want to but she should.. How long after? i mean some say if she isnt pushing anymore in an hour she is probably done, so an hour after if there is no more pushing?
BTW she is a 6lb toy poodle and my male is a 4lb teacup/tiny toy poodle (he flexuates so i dont claim him to really be a teacup)
Do they have a amniotic sac before EVERY PUP or is just a gush of fluid? I dont remember my cat doing a sack, just fluid gushing out. Are the sacs the pups in thick? I mean will i really need siccors to cut them out or can i use my hands? I have siccors i was just curious.
Any other helpful tips would be great, even if you think i already know it, please just tell me.. thanks Val
