I have a 8 month old min pin that I purchased from a breeder with a very good reputation and she is also a certified breed. This dog has been a great dog and still is i recently went on vactaion for a week and had someone watch my dog. When I returned from vacation my dog had a red ball sticking out of her vigina about the size of a large pea. I took her to the vet and they dont seem to have any ideas they say she may be a hermophadite (great spelling im sure) but they say not very probable. They have put her on antibotics and Im hopping this condition clears up she seems to be in pain from it. I also find it odd that this would show up so quickly like this and I should add she has been fixed for some time now as well.. I say someone in nov posted the exact problem but there was no conclusion posted and I cant email her becasue she is no longer on the forum. its very red and and seems irritated.. Thanks for your input....
Let me get this straight -- the dog has been spayed, right?
I would consider getting a second opinion, as well. I would hope that the vet could tell you what tissue is inflamed, rather than leaving you to describe it as a "red ball." (The hermaphrodite explanation seems a little off the wall to me.)
Bacterial infections can spread quickly, so I would not be surprised by something flaring up overnight. I hope your pup responds well to the antibiotic.
YES SHE AKC REGISTERED AND I HAVE HAD HER TO 2 VETS ALREADY AND AND LIKE I SAID NEITHER VET COULD TELL ME EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS... THEY BOTH SAID IN 25 YEARS OF BEING A VET THEY HAVE NOT SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. AND YES SHE IS SPAYED.... I GOOGLE THIS ISSUE AND DIDNT FIND MUCH BUT I DID FIND THAT ANOTHER GIRL HAD THE EXACT ISSUE WITH A MIN PIN SHE HAD AND NEVER POSTED THE END RESULT OF WHAT THE VET TOLD HER WHEN SHE WENT THIS POST WAS BACK IN OCT (I READ IT TODAY AND THIS JUST SHOWED UP LAST WEDNESDAY) IF YOU GOOGLE PRETTY MUCH THE DESCRIPTION THAT PUT UP YOULL FIND THE LINK. I HOPE IT WORKS OUT TO BUT ITS REALLY BOTHERING ME TO SEE MY DOG LIKE THIS AND IM SCAMBLING FOR ANYTHING. IF IT DOESNT GO AWAY I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT CORNELL (WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST ) NEXTED WEDNESDAY...
Please do not post in all caps...this is considered yelling and also against forum rules.
Without a picture (though not as pic some may want to see) its hard to guess. Did the person watching her say whether anything happened while you were gone..any falls, hits, trauma be it falling off stairs or anything? What did the breeder think?
Hopefully it is a simple infection causing some swelling....please let us know.
If the dog is in heat this is a symptom of excessive tissue response to the hormones and is called hyper-plasia. I can't believe a vet would not reccognize this condition for what it is. She is at high risk for infection or injury and needs to be spayed as soon as the heat cycle is over. Because of increased blood flow to the area it is not a good idea to do a spay right now unless an emergancy requires one.If you bought her to show or possibly breed forget that as she will have this problem get worse with each heat cycle and is at high risk of having the pups die from infection if she is bred which could only be done by AI any way.
sorry about the caps certainly wasnt yelling.... The dog was spayed several months ago and as far as any trauma from what I know there wasnt any family did watch her but I know they didnt give her the care I exspected or she needs they were supposed to stay there with her but instead they only came over and let her out for a few hours a day. So thats why I thought its more likley its a servere urinary tract infection. It has seem to get just a little smaller now and its now hard. When I first discovered it, it was soft and look irritated. still doesnt look good..
Could it be a polyp? I would imagine the vets would be familiar with this, but it usually happens in older unspayed females. I have seen it happen in younger dogs, even some used for breeding, but never in a spayed one. That is usually what a red ball sticking out has been in my experience. Maybe excessive hormones or something despite the spay? What a puzzle. Have they run blood tests? Hope she'll be okay.
they havent given her any tests as of yet just looked at it had me leave her for a few hours and gave really not good answer as to what it is. it seems like I said to have start to dry out a bit and look less painful i guess i will have to wait to find out from cornell nexted wednesday. ??????????????
