As the summer months approach I'm begining to wonder how to groom my pomeranian. She's a red sable and has such gorgeous fur I don't want to shave her, but I worry she might overheat. I always have lots of cold water for her and don't leaver her outside. When I'm outside with her sometimes i spray her with the hose, but she doesnt really like that haha Any ideas of how to keep her from getting too hot? Thank you :)

First all dogs have specific type coats for a purpose. While the pom coat 'looks' hot to you and me, actually they have a double coat in which the thick undercoat acts as versatile cooler, warming type coat.
Although, caution should be taken with all dogs of any coat type....always provide water and shade, never leave them out for long periods, keep a close eye on any dog that is out in the heat even for short periods for signs of heat stroke or exhaustion.
For a quick trip out, the coat protects them. Long stays should be restricted to morning and evening hours when the sun is down. Basic panting is bit a sign of distress unless it is labored and loud. panting is a dogs natual way to cool off. Just be aware of them when it is hot......shaving the coat doesnt assure better temperature tolerance.
