well my 11 month old chihuahua got fixed about a month and a half ago and when he came home he was well, u know we expected the swelling the redness etc etc.. but then as we noticed him getting better i saw a blue plastic knot made of really thin plastic strin, but it was sticking out of the opening i guess where they cut to neuter him, so... i asked the vet if that was normal and he said there is no stiches no sutures he is fine... idont know what ur talking about... so im like look i know he has that stickin out! so he said it will probably close and disolve with the time but it hasnt and i dont know what to think!!!!!!!!! now its starting to look swollen again and the blue plastic is still there.
Sounds like maybe the vet forgot that he did give your dog a stitch. By now, the skin around the stitch will be healed and you can't easily remove it at home. I'd take the dog back to the vet and have it checked to be sure it isn't infected and have it removed.
Most vets do give stitches..inside ones that dissolve.....but blue plastic sounds like a regular stitch ! SOunds like this vet needs to see you at no charge to remove that stitch..even if the dog did have stitches, removal of them are normally at no charge...My Shar Pei had blue stitches around his eyes recently..and his body rejected them....the skin around his eyes,I'm talking about..not actually his eyes...the area was infected and the vet just squeezed the pus out of each bump...she only had 3 left in place ,when there were like 14....so..with possible infection setting in,you need to call your vet and mention that you want a check of the surgery site..but you don't feel you should be charged.make that plain on the phone!
