I know a woman that has wolves for pets, I am kinda affraid to go over to her house because they always seem very on gaurd and nervous around anyone besides her. I have always thought it being kinda of cruelto have them as pets because they are wild animals and should be free in the wild like they are supossed to be,and wouldnt it be dangerous to have them in your home? Anyone have thoughts on this subject?
I kind of think that's sad. These animals were born and raised in the wild. Well...not specifically those ones but... Foxes, wolves, they were all born and raised in the wild. Why would anyone want to take that away from them? Even the most experienced scientists. I also agree that it's very similar to running a puppymill.
"Yeah, they are so cute that they have to be locked up in cages their whole lives! Haven't we seen this here in the USA, I think they are called, um, what is the word? Oh yeah, PUPPY MILLS!!!"
Well this conversation turned into a bit of a downer.. I was just saying I thought the foxes were cute...
I know a lot of animal lovers don't like the work of some scientists... but really, this is very similar to what all of our ancestors did when they were domesticating other animals (such as dogs).
In doing so, these scientists answered a lot of questions about the domestication process and animal behavior/psychology. It is a little sad that a lot of animals had to live caged up, but if it makes you feel better I know that a lot of the animals in the more recent generations have lived their lives as very loving pets.
Oh I wouldnt even dream of letting my dog get near them, and yes they are wolves not huskys. They are very beautiful animals but I find it dangerous to have them as pets. She just lets them sleep with her and everything and cant understand what the big deal is but to me it is a big deal. I mean what if one got loose from her or something I wish there was something I could do to show her that she is putting not only herself and her family in danger but also the wolves and everyone around her! I understand she loves them but they are not meant to be pets!
I agree with you. I do not think pure wolves should be kept in captivity, I didn't even know that was legal! I just thought wolf hybrids were legal with a permit. Maybe some states allow that, but where I'm from, authorities are pretty strict on the subject.
Animals, what animals? My children just have alot of hair!
