I live in a small town, and when someone's car alarm goes off, no one even pays attention. So here's my problem. My next door neighbor sets their car alarm, and it goes off for no apparent reason. The worst part is they apparently can't hear it from inside thier house, so it goes off for HOURS! This really annoys me and my dog! So last night my husband went to talk to the neighbor, and she was all attitude. This has been going on for years. From now on I'm just going to call the police when it goes off, but now I feel like we are in a fight with the neighbors, which I dont' like. Our home is in the country side, so they are a good distance apart but not enough to drown out the annoying alarm, I just can't imagine how they can't hear it!
I'm with you, they're stupid and useless. Most theives know how to disable them anyway. I have this darn button on my keyless entry remote that sounds an alarm. I'm always hitting it by mistake and it's annoying and embarrassing. Not once has anyone come running to see if I need help! What is the point!?!
(If anyone knows how to disable the button, the info would be greatly appreciated.)
Rottlvur -- Will a thick piece of tape pulled taut over the top of the button work? That way, you are less likely to press it by mistake, but still able to activate it if you need it. I haven't tried this myself, but I've considered it.
And by "activate it if you need it" -- I mean if you find yourself in a huge parking lot and have completely lost sense of where your car could be....
Buddha4me -- Tell your neighbor that every time their car alarm goes off, you will give them a call -- but will only let the phone ring twice. Maybe that will spur them to action.
Then again, maybe it will only cause them to accuse you of making harassing phone calls.
Rottluvr, take the back off of the remote; remove the rubber piece from the circuit board and put a small piece of paper between the button and the contact then close it all back up! If you ever decide you want the panic button to work, you can always remove the paper.
Hope this helps! (Hubby has modified all of our remotes :)
