I don't normally pay attention to the ads on this site, but I saw one for "the original non-hyper labs" at www.labpups.com and I had to check it out. The site doesn't explain just how the breeder created these magical non-hyper labs, but does say the breeder read a DNA study that shows the dolphin is the lab's closest relative. Of course, the breeder doesn't site his/her source. And I thought claims about puggles were silly...
Hum, closest relative is the dolphin...I would like to see that study too! I have to admit that both of our labs were pretty well laid back as long as we got in their daily exercise. I can see breeding for temperment helping to get a realitively laid back line, but, um...DOLPHINS?
That doesn't make any sense. The only thing that labs and dolphins have in common are that they are mamals. I saw on the discovery channel that they think dolphins were hooved land animals that evoled into water animals. Actually, that statement is funny. I don't believe 1 bit of it.
1. I don't believe that labs are the dolphins closest relatives. A lab is a dog...just like a chihuahua. Does that make chis related to dolphins? 2. I also find the statement that muskrat posted was also funny. Where is the scientific proof that dolphins had hooves lol!!!!! Also, even if a hooved dolphin decided to crawl into the ocean, having flippers from hooves wouldn't be in his genes that would pass on to his kids lol. That would be his own decision hehe.
Cili Pepper, If that stament IS true (not sure I believe that either actually) I think evolution would've played a part in that. Not that it passed on flippers to its kids. It would take a REALLY long time for flippers to become a part of their anatomy. Edited to add: I DON'T believe that Labs are related in any way to dolphins. I was refering to Dolphins once upon a time having hooves.
What's so weird about dolphins having hooves. They say that whales use to have legs and lived on land. All though it maybe sharks, but I'm pretty sure it is whales. That doesn't prove that they are related to dogs though. If they had hooves then they may be related to horses or cows. So the fact that they may have had hooves disproves the fact that they are related to labs. Some poeple will come up with anything to sell their puppies. With all the lab breeders out there you probably have to come up with some kind of gimic to get people to look at your dogs. Not saying that what this breeder is doing is right just that it is a good sales pitch.
i thought evolution worked opposite of this. i thought life started in the sea and moved to the land. not land mammals moving to the sea. guess i should have paid closer attention in school. anyway, labs are not related to dolphins.
What a crazy claim that dolphin's are dog's closest relatives! The only similarity I see beyong both of them being mammals, is that they are both extremely smart animals!! They also happen to be two of my favorite animals :0)
Well Scout I think the thorey is that mammals went from land to sea during the ice age to get away from well the ice. There could go deep in the water and not be affected. At least thats what I thought the theroy was. I could be wrong and from the time I heard that and now they may have changed their whole thorey about them living on land. Who knows they are always coming up with new theroies and trying to dispute the old ones.
i am not sure about all hoved animals but i have heard that the cow is more closely related to dolphins than any other animal. i heard it on the discovery channel so i figure it has some scientific backing but i am not sure what it is or if it has actually been proven or if it is only a theory. although, with all of this new DNA technology you would think they should have some evidence.
