My family and I were lucky enough to find a full bred 9 month old female Rottie at the local shelter. With only a few minor issues she seems to have adjusted well. Only she growls and has snapped twice at myself and daughter. She walks up and wants to be petted and then growls. I'm not sure what this behavior is. I have had different types of dogs over the years, but never one that has behaved this way. Like "Moody?, or Bipolar" I don't know. She is terrific, but I am having a hard time trusting her completely. Any advice would be helpful.
You need to get control of this problem now. I would seek the advice of an animal behaviourist, and I would take her to obedience school, if she has not been yet. Keep your dog away from your daughter until you get to the bottom of this, and consider putting a muzzle on her. I hate muzzles, but since you don't know this dog's history, and she is showing signs of aggression at this age, I would rather be safe than sorry. How old is your daughter? This dog may very well have been mis-treated by children in the past, and as such is not to be trusted around children. She may well have been locked in a shed and totally unsocialized. I would also take her to the vet to have a complete check up, to rule out any underlying medical probles that you may not be aware of.How does she behave around other dogs?
