We adopted a beagle/jack russell terrier mix. He is just lovable. He is so afraid of my husband. He follows me everywhere and never lets me leave his sight. We figured he might have been abused by a male. Sad regardless. But is there any input on what i could do? It is overwhelming sometimes because he won't eat unless i am at eyesight and he won't go outside unless i take him out. He always wants to be next to me. I have 2 other dogs and that can be challenging to with his fear. help!!!!! any advice would be wonderful
I have a beagle I adopted from a shelter, and we had the same problem, she was so skittish around my fiancee, and we also believe she was abused by a male. She has started to turn around though, it really just takes time. Have your husband approach your beagle slowly, pet him/her, then walk away. Or, he can sit on the couch, and call the dog to come, and then pet. Once your dog gets used to him, he/she will realize that your husband isn't going to be mean or hit. And whatever you do, NEVER let your husband discipline your dog, you will have to do that. Hope this helps!
