MY VET HAS SAID MY BASSETT HAS MANGE. HE GAVE HER SOME PILLS FOR THE ITCHING . BUT THAT HASNT HELPED HER . THE MANGE IS ONLY UNDER HER LEGS. AND A SPOT ON HER NECK. DOES ANY BODY HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS THAT I CAN TRY TO GET RID OF IT.
Hi, i noticed your last post re mange on your basset, was last aug.09. May I know if you have already found the cure for it? My dog also suffers from it which started just a month and half ago. My vet just recommends once a week medicinal baths and a possible change in diet. These medicinal baths doesnt even have an assurance that it will cure the mange. According to her will just minimize the scratching to at least lessen the redness. No guarantee though to eliminate the mange. So ... need advice too. Thanks.
Bud... it depends on the kind of Mange. Demodectic is usually treated with a good high quality diet, maybe some vitamins, creams bathes, sometime antibitoics. the dog will have it for life, and the trick is to keep the flare up down. Scarcotic is like scabies on us and needs to be treated with medicated shampoos that kill the mites, and then your house, and dogs area needs to be done.
If you don't like what your vet says, you can always go to another for a second opinion.
