We have recently lost our 3 year old German shorthaired pointer due to a twisted gut. As you can imagine he has left a massive hole. We would like to replace our four legged friend in the near future and the Siba-Inus have caught our eye. We have daughters aged 4 and 8 and they love to cuddle and snuggle their dog, are they happy with this. We work most days so the dog would have to be on its own for certain lengths(not the weekend). We are active and love walking do they like this activity. My biggest concern is that a number of times I have read not to let this breed off the leash. Although I would not let it off the leash while walking on the road, I would like to let it run and have freedom in the park or moors or beach, is this possible. Many thanks. T xx
I am not an expert on the breed, but was very interested in it at one point. From all of the research I have done, I found them to be a bit aloof, and really eager to please there human. If they want to go, they will weather you like it or not. I have also read alot of comments, and talk to some breeders who consider them a very primitive breed. They require alot of training and time.
Personally I would suggest talking to different breeders, and get there info. I found it works great when considering a breed. I just call and let the breeder know I am not ready to purchase a pup, I am researching the breed. Most love to talk about there breed. The ones who don't are not worth dealing with.
I belive Ruffian has one, so hopefully she will post her experiances. I think if you are used to a working breed, and the ease of training when it comes to a working breed you might want to consider something in the same group. Just my opinion
