My 3-year-old Maltipoo has never gotten used to riding in the car. She has her own booster car seat so she can see out the window. She is very excited about the idea of taking a ride and is happy to get into the car. But from the time we start to drive, she cries/whines and pants. I have tried homeopathic drops and benadryl...but nothing works. She never gets sick, just full of anxiety. We take her to fun places so that she doesn't think that every time she gets in the car that she is going to the vet or the groomer. Please help.
Not what your question was, I know, lol. I have a few who have been this way and over time when we take them along they get used to it. Mine ride in crates though, never loose. Lost count of how many pets I have seen be ejected through a windshield in an accident when I ran on the squad. Even a 20 MPH fender bender can eject a dog through a window :(
Possibly not only being safer, but a crate may give her a more secure feeling as well?
She does not like being in a crate. When she was born and up until she was ready to come home with us, her mother was in a large area which had a crate with no door, so mother and puppies could come and go within the larger area. When we need to keep her confined, her open crate is in the bathroom and a baby gate is blocking the door so she can't get out.
