So, I've said before that a couple months ago my husband and I adopted a Great Dane puppy. She is German bred so they are slow on papers here, but I can't figure out what color she is. The closest I can find is fawn, but she is really more of a reddish color. I see Great Danes of this color all over Germany, but I don't speak enough German to ask. Is she really fawn?
Thanks, but yes I am outside of the US. My husband and are stationed in Germany, which is where the dog was bred. We still don't have her papers, but the previous owners said it took them over a year to get papers on their other dog here. We adopted Sammy because she was being a typical puppy and accidentally hurt the other dog in the house. He was a smaller, older dog that they had more of an attachment to so they asked if we would like to take her in, she isn't vicious just was playing a little to rough for her housemate. She really is usually calm and loves to cuddle in bed with my husband, our son and myself.
Sorry, but my two years of German in high school (a long time ago) won't help you much in getting to the bottom of this issue. (About all I can remember is "rot" = "red"!)
Have you tried looking online for the German breed club? Chances are they define their colors differently -- may even recognize colors that are quite different from AKC. Then you can try an online translating service (e.g. freetranslation.com), although the results can be kind of spotty.
