I have a newly adopted schnauzer who wasn't in the best shape when we took her in. When I took her to the vet she was prescribed medicated shampoo to help with the breakout she had from living in filth. The other day I took her in to get her groomed and she had some fleas, so the groomer dipped her. I told her about her sensitive skin, but fleas can also irritate. Well, now she is constantly digging, more than usual. I tried to call the vet today and get her an appointment, no answer yet. So, I was curious as to whether anyone knew of anything I could use to help soothe her until I can get her into the vet for a possible Rx.
Okay, just got off the phone with my vet and she also recommended benadryl pill form and also maybe cream. I'm fighting the flea battle too with these little guys and her sensitive skin isn't helping. Wish us luck. I hope we can get these problems fixed.
Sounds like very sensitive skin or maybe hes hypo allergenic. Is he very red around the feet or belly? IF so they have this shampoo called malocept or something like that the vet can perscribe that alot of dogs use for dry itchy and allergy skin. If not that maybe try an oatmeal shampoo. The fleas have a help in that but if he has red paws legs or belly its definitely allergy related and id be careful dipping him with such sensitive skin. Maybe have your groomer give him a capstar before a bath if hes covered in fleas but if not id just try Comfortis a new flea med that is a pill so he wouldnt have the irritation of the messy liquid. Goodluck :)
Saving pittys one life at a time.... well trying! :)
