My dog is afraid of almost everything. Her name is Katie and she's a 7 year old toy rat terrier, but I didn't notice she was afraid of anything until we moved a couple of years ago. She's afraid of other dogs (except for my mom's dog that she grew up with) and when I say afraid, I mean I have scars where she ran away while she was in my lap. She's afraid of cats the same way. She's scared of the word "underwear" because, when she was a puppy, she would eat my underwear if I left her alone. I would say "Bad dog! You don't eat underwear!" Now if she hears the word, she runs and hides. She's also scared if I get the hiccups. Only me. If my mom or brother get the hiccups, she's fine. But if I get them, she won't stop shaking and won't come near me and if I pick her up, she growls. I don't know how to fix it, but I don't want her to be scared the rest of her life. Help me!

Moves are sometimes hard on animals to adjust to. Maybe you need to show your dog that you are a very strong and protective pack leader. Don't let other dogs or cats invade your dogs space. Take your dog for walks on a leash and keep a buffer zone around your dog. Don't try to make your dog make friends with any other animals. Your dog has you and your moms dog as companions. Sounds to me like your dog is a smart dog since it knows what the word underwear means since it has been disciplined for it. Good luck with your dog.
I love German Shepherds and will always have one with me for the rest of my life!
