My 7m female Yorkie was trained to pee on the inside on a pee pad. In the last month she has tinkled around the pad and house even in her crate. She will not go outside and I hope that I have not ruined her. I have gone outside for 30 minutes and once 5 hours not once did she pee. I brought her in and within seconds she released. Can I retrain her and HOW DO I DO IT??? Help please.
You are probably going to have to start from scratch as if you are housebreaking a puppy. Obviously if she has now started urintaing in her vrate you won't be able to use that as a tool in the process. Instead you may use what's called an X-pen. Pretend for this purpose that it is a "crate" and start from scratch. Keep her confined in that, only allowed out to potty, etc. just as you would normally crate train.
Hopefully she can be retrained but it is going to be a lot harder than if you had just trained her to go outside from the very beginning.
I have also seen suggested bringing the soiled pee pads outside to make the correlation between her pottying outdoors VS in but I;m not sure how that works exactly.
Start over. My best friend breeds Yorkies. What she has had to do, even with some of her adults, is start with the pee pad in the house. She moves it closer and closer to the door, until she has it outside; where she wants them to go.
It does take some time, as well as patience, but is most certainly effective.
Best of luck!
