If they have alot of teeth, then yes it is ok to start allowing them to play in some mush. They probably will not each much for the first couple of days. More playing then eating. Still do their regular bottle feeding. My babies are usually weaned around 4 weeks, I provide food for them morning and evening.
I am a bit later. I begin to introduce puppy mush mixed with goat milk (or whatever formula you are feeding) at about 4 1/2 weeks when they have teeth and their mom is not quite as enthusiastic about feedings. They are not fully weaned until 5-6 weeks old, as mom and pups like to nurse. The first food I feed them is boiled hamburger and brown rice in goat milk. I introduce a puppy food at about 6-7 weeks, as I know families will feed them puppy food and I am a raw food enthusiast. I put it in a blender with a water/goat milk mix and they do okay with it.
Just an update: My pups are 6 days older than yours, and although they had been nursing every 4 hours or so, and the mom is fed 5 times a day, she has very little milk. Yesterday, I put warmed goats milk in the pen and a couple played in it and lapped it. I also boiled some hamburger with rice and will put it in a blender today with goats milk to see if there is interest. They are 4 weeks today, so it is nearly the time that I begin food, but generally the mom still has a lot of milk. There are only two pups with canines that have poked through, the others still have bumps under the skin where you can feel the teeth, so milk and mush is all they will get. I see too many posts about puppies choking and passing b/c the food is too large. Keep me posted as our pups are so close in age, I would love to go through the weaning with someone else.. :)
