I feel so bad my Dachshund had a single pup and it was dead. We even took her to the vet to deliver the pup and it still died. Now my dog will not stop crying and looking for her pup she even tried to nurse a stuff animal. Today I'm going to go look at some new born pups and take her with me to see if she will foster one. I hope she excepts the pup since she will not stop crying over the one she lost.
It is very hard for a female to lose her litter. My girl lost her litter of six in june. I tried to find some pups who needed her, and couldn't. It took her about a week to start to relax. She watched me clean her whelping box area, and I allowed her to watch me put all the stuff in the washer. I do believe it helped her as she stopped looking for her pups in the whelping box. She didn't want to be left alone, and I was able to take her to work with me. It is stressful for them, and very sad for us. Angel calmed down in about a week, and was back to herself after a couple of weeks. Her milk dried up pretty fast.
it will just take time and patience, but your girl will come around. Give her lots of love, and when her hormones come back down, I am sure she will be fine.
Today were seeing if she will adopt a new born kitten so far she's treating it just like she would a puppy but if she decides she don't want it we have a terrier pup lined up for her. I hope this works she has not eaten since the pup died two days ago and she had a fever yesterday so we took her back to the vet but their is nothing they can do.
