I just washed my dog and removed over 10 fleas from her! She takes Sentinel and just had Advantix 10 days ago. I know I'll need to have my house exterminated, but I'm also concerned with Cricket and the fleas she may get until I'm able to get an exterminator to the house.
Is it okay to wash a dog with a flea shampoo if they are also on Advantix? Is it too soon for me to reapply the Advantix as it obviously hasn't been effective?
This has really grossed me out and I feel so sorry that Cricket and Bella (I only found 1 flea on her, but she has heavier fur so they could just be hiding) have to deal with this.
I live in Houston and they are saying this is one of the worst flea years in years, so even if I get the house sprayed, and my yard, there are still going to be fleas jumping around.
I know for a proven fact that plain ole blue Dawn dishwashing liquid will kill fleas on a dog. My dogs take a Comfortis pill on the 7th of each month and we have no fleas. To keep them from "jumping" until someone can get to your house, turn the a/c down as low as you can possibly stand it. That should help.
If you need help, ask God; if you don't, thank God.
I prefer natural methods. Any of the spot ons should only be done once a month. Any sooner and you can overdose your pup. Dawn or citrus shampoo will kill most of what is on a dog. let shampoo sit on for at least 5 mins, and becare not to allow it to get into the dogs eyes.
There are many kinds of sprays you can get for your home. Turn down your ac, and then spray all the doggie areas. Follow instruction on bottle as they are all different. This should help to kill most of the fleas on your animals and in your home.
I tried turning down the AC last night, but because it is so hot here, I couldn't get it lower than 72 (and it ran all night long, my electric bill will be through the roof this month!). I will try the dawn soap.
you could also ask your vet for a product called program. it is a pill they take once a month that sterilizes any flea that bites them so that they cannot reproduce. It doesn't actually sterilize them but it works on the shell breaking tooth so that any flea eggs laid the flea babies cannot break out of their shell. just using that product alone it will take a couple of months to be flea free so I would use in conjunction with other products.
