I just bought a Shih Tzu from a lady off Craigslist (I know bad place to be buying a dog). She does NOTHING. She doesn't bark, she doesn't whine, she doesn't do anything. I got her here yesterday and she has gone to the bathroom a couple of times (because I picked her up and took her outside and stayed out there till she did something). She hasn't drank all day, I have offered it to her every half hour and she won't drink any of it. I tried to feed her several times today and she has refused most of it EXCEPT when I offered her canned dog food. I gave her a little bit from a spoon and she ate it so the lady I got her from said she mixed canned with dry, so I mixed canned with dry food and she has been refusing it. The lady I got her from only had her for 10 days. She would have had her for less time but she held her for me for 4 days. She has recently had puppies (she still has a discharge coming from her privates) God only know where those poor puppies are. What do I do? I have no history on this dog, she does nothing, it is like she has is majorly depressed. This is not what I signed on for. The lady I got her from talked all about these nice things about her and she is a fur ball on my couch that I am DEEPLY concerned about. Wat do I do? I need HELP!!!!!
It could be that she just needs time to adjust to you and your home. You said the woman only had her for 10 days? Where did she live before that? She may be totally stressed out if she has been jostled around from home to home. Cook her up some chicken or hamburger and mix that in with the dog food or just feed her that to get her to eat. I would take her to the vet on Monday and have her thoroughly checked out, including bloodwork, to make sure she isn't ill. It doesn't sound like you got her from a vey trustworthy person and I would worry that she dumped this dog off on you because it is sick. Also the discharge from her privates could indicate a pyometra, which is an infection of the uterus. This is a serious, fatal condition that needs a vet appt. immediately so she doesn't die. Could also be why she is not eating and is acting lethargic. Don't really know whether this is depression or something medically wrong with her so if her attitude concerns you, have her checked by an emergency vet as soon as possible.
