We adopted a boxed mix was suppose to be mixed wiith ridge back but not too sure. We got her when she was 8 weeks old and she is now 1 yr and seems to become more aggressive When we kennel her up at night she will growl very mean sounding at first it was just a growl now she bites and snaps at us has not broke skin yet but she does have very powerful jaws. I wont lie it hurts, We have had her in obed. training and she listens very well for the most part. We thought it was she may have been tired or not enough exercise. But I dont think it is an excuse, We have a small 6 lb chi whom she has growled at and snapped at and worried for him or kids. I have tried laying her on her side and holding her down until she calms and it takes 30 min and when I let go she snaps and growls at me again. I have drug her to her kennel and she growls and snaps when I pull my hand away Please help I love her so much Dont know what to do
You need more help than a message board can give you. My advice would be to contact a reputable trainer( you can search for an APDT in your area) Meanwhile, stop holding your dog down and stop dragging him to his crate.
My sister had similar problems with her puppy. She kept looking for that "dog training secret" but never found it. She hired a trainer, but ultimately, she gave Heidi away to another family. The family was a younger couple with no children and Heidi ended up being a better fit for them.
I would definitely find a trainer as soon as possible.
Your dog regardless of breed sounds like a very nervous dog. I would also bet money that she bit both you and your daughter out of fear. If you reach, grab or advance to fast towards a nervous/fearful dog you risk a "fear bite". Fear bites are the most common reason people are bitten by dogs. I know your thinking how can she fear us we love her, but in that moment she felt threatened and you just didn't get the memo she was sending.
