Was just given a F Yorkie. She is 4 y.o. and her puppies were sold, and she was given away. I am not sure what to feed her as she is small. I've tried dry dogfood and she ignores it. She will eat people food Ugh! I want to feed her something small but nutricious and appealing to her. She has adapted very well to me. She is everywhere I am and sleeps with us. I just need some ideas to try, and not make her sick. Thanks
What were the people feeding her where you go her? That is usually the best place to start. As long as she knows she can get people food, she will ignore her own dinner. I prefer the holistic foods personally, and they can get pricey. As far as getting her to eat, I would try adding a small amount of canned to her dry. Even a small spoonful can work. Since dogs taste buds are not all that sensitive, they find their food by smell. Canned food can make it smell really good, and they would be more willing to eat.
As far as getting sick, and change in diet can cause diarrhea. If you do not know what kind of food she was fed, then anything you feed her may cause some issues for the first couple of days.
We have a year old yorkie and have found that table scraps are not good for them at all. I buy dry dog food, but get the "small" bite size which I think she has a easier time chewing. No problems at all. I use Natual Balance breed, but she has food allergies and this is what the vet recommended. Good luck
