I have had dogs all my life. I currently raise, breed and show Great Danes. I only have three at the moment. Never in my day have I ever had the problem with tapeworms. The last older puppy I took in back in May of this year had them. I tried to treat them without much success because I seeing them again. I do ivermectin 1% for heartworm treatment and every year's annual exams show they are parasite free of anything. But, now that I have these nasty tapeworms I can't find a way to shake them. I love my vet and I love when I need them for emergencies. I have to treat all my babies to really make sure I get rid of the tapeworms. My total bill was ending up to being $173 dollars. I have never in my life spent that much in de-worming an animal. I have some Dane people who use horse wormers to kill all worms: praziquantel and some use it with the ivermectin, but I have no idea what the dosage would be for a 104lbs, 107lbs and 143lbs Danes. Any advise PLEASE. I have noticed my boy is starting to lose some weight.

I can understand how frustrated you must be. I use Canimax, not only is it a h/w preventative and takes care of the usual internal parasites, but it also takes care of tapeworm. I live in S. Florida, so have to be careful of all parasites.
It is a horse wormer, but is dosed out for dogs. My boy is about 100 pounds, so I have to up the dosage from one pill to 1.5 (I think, at work & can't remember right off hand). I did quite a bit of research on both the medication and the company before switiching my guys over. We've used it for about 2 years now with great results.
Canimax also uses only 6 week dosages, not 4.
Hope that helps.
If you would like to PM me, I can send you the link to purchase.

Tapeworms are most often caused by fleas. So be sure to treat for them as well when you treat for the worms so it is more effective. Also when you worm for tapes, after 2 weeks reworm if using a regular tapeworm med. The wormers kill the adult worms, then you re-treat sincde the eggs hatch and then you have to re-worm to get rid of the next cycle of them as well.
Your most universal wormer that will take care of tapeworms as well as any other type is Panacur aka: Safeguard. I use the liquid, but due to the massive size of your guys it would take a huge dose, lol.
Panacur/safeguard is to be given daily for 3 consecutive days. You can buy the powder form at the local pet supply store or feed store. It is in a box and goes by weight.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It is about learning to dance in the rain.
I have Panacur 1000ML for when I have puppies and rescues. It take 20ml for my boy, forgot to mention that. It did not work. Panacur does not work on all tapeworms, the most common tapeworms caused by fleas are killed by using praziquantel.
