I have a tiny boy toy chihuahua and he seems to drink alot of water i dont know if that is normal and could it hurt him if i give him to much. how much is to much. Also he has had a couple of seizures and i was wondering if that was normal. i love him to death and want him to be healthy so any advice would be welcomed. thank you
He may be having seizures due to low blood sugar which ALOT of tiny breeds suffer from when they are young. *IF* that is what the problem is then feeding him more frequently throughout the day ... like 4-5 times a day ... may help.
As far as the water drinking is concerned I don't know how much you consider too much. If you are concerned, start using a measuring cup to measure out and dispense his water and keep track of how much you are giving him in 1 day. Keep track of it for a few days and see if it fluctuates or increases at all.
Increased water drinking combined with seizure activity can be symptoms of a much bigger problem and I would seriously advise you make an appt. with your vet as soon as possible. Voice your concerns with your vet. A quick blood glucose done right in the office can tell you if he is suffering from low blood sugar. A full blood panel will alert you to other problems that may be going on. It could also put your mind at ease if nothing is going on.
It is in his best interest to be checked out soon.
