I adopted my three year old Aussie a few months ago from a shelter. I run a daycare and he is wonderful with the kids. The only problem I have with him is this whiny bark he exhibits whenever I come home from running errands. He doesnt bark at any other time except when he's herding cattle or horses, but for some reason whenever I've been gone and I return, he goes balistic with his barking. Any suggestions would truly be appreciated.
Aussies like to talk, He is expressing his joy for your return home. I have 2 that do that. I allow them to "talk" to me when I come home. If you really don't like it, a spray bottle with water works well. Just keep in mind, you are teaching him every time you come home he will get sprayed for barking.
I would work on teaching him quiet or no bark. it will probably be better in the long run. It is the breed that they are, and they love their people very much. He is just saying," i am so happy your home, can we go play now". Keep that in mind when it annoys you.
