I'm buying a 7 month old Toy Australian Shepherd this weekend. I've done all of the research I could (really, I'm reading everything that repeats itself now) and I've fallen head over heels for this breed.
I'm very nervous however, about taking in an older dog that has already had it's attached family. They've only had him for 4 months however, and the puppy has bonded with the son. They can't keep him anymore, because their Boxer unfortunately is too big to play with and injures the poor little boy :(
Anyways, my question is, What should I expect when I bring this little guy home? I've read Mini Aussies experience seperation anxiety, and that once they bond with a family, they bond for life. So should I throw all hopes out the window of my new puppy bonding with me? Or should I fight through it and try anyway?
The current owner says he will fit perfectly in to my lifestyle, but I just can't seem to get over this fear of my own. Please someone help :(
He's a 9 pound 7 month old Toy Australian Shepherd. She says he is very cuddly, and bonded with her son. He's caged majority of his time, apparently because of their boxer.
Those people don't have control of their dogs and they have training issues. I have 7 or more Boxers at any given time running around my house with (2) five pound yorkies, and a Shih tzu.... No problems at my house.
Sometimes Boxer puppies that don't know any better will try to play rough with the small dogs, but I let them know that it is not acceptable...small dogs are off limits and everything is fine.
