First time buyer. Should I buy a puppy for 1,000 off if it has grade 3 luxating patellas also stats in contract from breeder they will put 1,000 in on the surgery if she needs it so then it would cost me 2,000.. She also cannot ever be overweight
I wouldn't touch that puppy with a 10 foot pole. A grade 3 definitely requires surgery and the breeder should pay for the total cost of the surgery not just part of it. Unfortunately the bulldog breed is prone to soooo many health problems to begin with, you will have many years of costly veterinary care if you purchase a bulldog pup you don't need to start off with one who needs a costly surgery to begin with.
If you really want this particular puppy, call around to veterinarians who specialize in orthopedic surgeries and get an estimate on what a surgery for that would cost. Without seeing the pup they may be hesitant upon giving you a price quote over the phone but they should be able to give you a ballpark figure. If you have 3 grand to purchase the puppy, ask the breeder to minus the cost of the quotes you got from the surgeons from her 3g asking price and use that money to have the pups knees fixed.
I agree, I would not purchase that pup. You don't know what other problems you may encounter in the dogs life. Also keeping a bulldog from getting overweight is near impossible. I would suggest finding another breeder, and another puppy.
